NATD Contemporary Dance

Our NATD Contemporary Dance classis from 9yrs and explore various Contemporary styles and techniques to help build dance skills and performance qualities.

Contemporary Dance is all about expressing emotion through organic movements and unrestricted lines. Incorporating elements of lyrical Jazz, Ballet and Modern dance, contemporary is an exciting fusion which allows students to work through powerful and emotional routines. Your child will learn beginner to intermediate moves and put their practice into dynamic dance routines. Classes consist of a warm up, learning of set syllabus exercises and creative dance routines, ending with a cool down and stretch. Students have the opportunity to take exams, however this is not compulsory.

The National Association of Teachers of Dancing was the first awarding organisation to offer a graded syllabus. The NATD syllabus relates to the work of three pioneering choreographers of our time, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham and Jose Limon. It employs contact work between dancers, release technique, fall and recovery, floorwork and improvisation, creative freedom and provides an excellent basic knowledge for pupils. We are pleased to say that since we introduced Contemporary to our timetable, we have a 100% pass rate with exams.

We facilitate a happy and fun environment for children to enjoy contemporary dance and express themselves. As a parent I acknowledge the importance of you knowing what activities your child engages in. Parents are always invited to our ‘Watching Week’ at the end of term and are welcome to stay for the first session.

For all classes parents are expected to drop off and collect. Please refer to your parent handbook for uniform requirements. To order additional uniform items hoodies, t-shirts etc please visit https://crazyaunt.co.uk/lwd

We look forward to meeting you and having the pleasure of teaching your child.
